Ayurvedic Remedies to Cure Depression

'Depression' is not just a mere word or an ailment to be taken granted for. It's a serious ailment which slowly and gradually kills an individual internally and then externally. Scientifically it can be termed as an imbalance of hormones in the brain and compilation of negative thoughts. Under such circumstances, the individual is not able to find positivity around and is always depressed and have lost all the hopes from life. Though there is medical help available for such cases there are also Ayurvedic remedies that can help one to cure the ailment at the initial stages. Let us have a look at some of the Ayurvedic remedies that can help one to cure depression and have a look at the brighter side of life: 

Connect with all the inner elements of the body

Ayurveda states that our body is made up of elements like water, earth, fire, air, and sky. Today because of fast-paced and hectic life schedules people are not able to connect with their inner body and these elements. Hence it is necessary to connect with our inner mind for internal peace of mind which is equally important as our physical health.

  1. Water Element

To connect with the water element of the body Ayurveda states to have a bath daily. This helps to freshen up the mind and also helps to fulfil the water requirement of the body. It is also advised to drink water sip by sip and feel every sip too. This works magically and the body adapts to the benefits of these habits quickly.

  1. Earth Element

Earth or also known as Mother Earth is another vital element our body is made up of. This element can be easily by having a barefoot walk on the mud. One can also do gardening to spend time with nature. This helps an individual to connect with his root existence and feel inner peace of mind. So instead of reading saddening thoughts on social media and comparing one's lifestyle to those thoughts have a walk in the garden to feel what nature has in abundance to gift us.

  1. Fire Element

Fire Element is also an interesting element of our body. It can be termed interesting as it can fascinate one to know that simple remedies and things around us can help one to overcome depression. To fulfil the fire element one can spend some time under the sunlight. This helps one to open up the clogged thought process and aid to find a brighter side of life. One can also practice Trataka which is a yogic way to deal with depression and lack of concentration. Trataka involves lighting a candle and staring at its flame for about 8 to 10 minutes. This helps the person to improve concentration and also to eliminate negative thoughts from the mind.

  1. Air Element

Air elements can be fulfilled by practising breathing exercises daily about 10 to 15 minutes. This helps one to analyze the breath and watch its pattern. One can practice breathing exercises like Anulom Vilom, Kapalbharati, and Brahmari Pranayam. These simple and effective breathing exercises can help one to get rid of the heaviness felt by the mind and body. One can also spend some time in the open air by sitting in a garden or on a terrace.

  1. Sky element

There are moments when a certain piece of music or sounds bring about a smile on our face and positivity in our mind. The sky element can be experienced by listening to soothing and calm music tunes which can make one feel that life has a much deeper and happier meaning.

The pointers mentioned below can also help one to overcome depression:

  • Wake up early in the morning.
  • Exercise every day in some of the other forms for at least 20 minutes.
  • Massage head with Brahmi oil before bedtime. One can also put a few drops of the oil in the nostrils for a nourishing food for the brain.
  • In leisure, times visit a place of worship.
  • If you wish to blurt out your feelings do it in front of a mirror. This technique helps a lot as there is no one to judge the individual's feelings and emotions.
  • Read motivational and inspirational biographies novels, or books.
  • Add one spoon of almond oil in one glass of milk and have it before you sleep.
