Ayurvedic Remedies to Improve Digestion

The Healthy and smooth functioning of the body is essential to maintain the smooth functioning of each part of the body. A healthy body can be maintained with the help of a nutritious diet along with any form of physical activity. Though nutritious food might not sound much exciting to the young generation it is an essential requirement of the body.

Today people have a fad to eat junk and deep-fried food to savour their taste buds. But the only contribution of such type of foodstuff is in the form of fats and elevated cholesterol. These food items also lead to constipation and weak digestion. Hence it is necessary to maintain a healthy balance among such kinds of food and the greener and healthy food. Indigestion can happen due to various reasons and there are various forms of the cure for it as well. Let us have a look at a few homemade fixes for indigestion.

  1. Ghee added Salt Water

Though deep-fried foodstuff in ghee and oil can be a bit for our stomach to digest at times ghee is also the cure for indigestion. Ayurveda states that ghee helps to lubricate our digestive system and helps in eliminating the excess and unwanted stuff from our body. Hence having 2 to 3 teaspoons of ghee in the morning on an empty stomach proves beneficial for our health. Salt helps to remove bacteria from our gut system hence it is also a friendly ingredient to cure indigestion. Hence one can prepare this healthy digestive drink by adding a spoon of ghee and a little salt in a glass of water. One can have it after meals to avoid indigestion.

  1. Chew on Fennel Seeds

Fennel seeds are loaded with fiber. These small green seeds help to digest the heavy food items and cure indigestion. Hence many people prefer to end their meal by popping on a few fennel seeds. These seeds help to provide the required amount of fiber to our digestive system to digest the meal and avoid constipation. One can also add these seeds in a glass of warm water and consume it to avoid bloating as well.

  1. Hydrate your body

We often feel the urge to have a glass of water after our meals or when we feel thirsty. But it isn't enough amount of water to hydrate our body completely. A lot of studies suggest having at least 8 to 10 glasses of water to keep our body adequately hydrated. Water also helps us to flush out all the waste material from our body though it might be the undigested food or Ama (toxins). Hence the first activity of our day begins by drinking water. Having a glass of warm water is the best remedy to complete our digestion process and avoid indigestion.

  1. Have soups or liquid food

Indigestion can also happen due to the accumulation of huge and improperly chewed food morsels in our gut. Hence it becomes heavy for our digestive system to digest it. During such conditions can savour on liquid and soupy food items. Watery forms of meals can help in the process of digestion and also help to keep it easier for our digestive system to function. Hence soups are a good and healthy option during indigestion. One can also digestion-friendly ingredients to the soup like rock salt, pepper, garlic, and cumin.   

  1. Curd

The topmost ranked food item to cure an upset stomach or indigestion is curd. Curd is a natural probiotic component. It also consists of healthy bacteria that keep our gut healthy and also ease the digestion procedure. Curd is also essential to heal an inflamed digestive system and cure it. Hence one can have curd in various manners like in the form of lassi, or by simply adding rock salt and cumin powder in it. One can also savour on buttermilk after a heavy meal to aid the digestive system.
