Nutritious Herbs and Condiments found in our Daily Diet

Indian food is full of flavours and a variety of spices. These spices help to make the food delectable and flavourful. These spices and herbs are not just limited to add that hint of spice of sweetness to the food but they are also nutritional for our body. Hence the best part of adding these spices is they make our food appealing and also carry a healthy factor. Some of these spices are also used for various other purposes ranging from homemade face packs to applying a paste of the spice on the injury to gain its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Let us have a look at some of the nutritional herbs and spices included in our regular diet.

  1. Cinnamon

This slightly sweet spice is usually used in the preparation of curries and sweet stuff. Cinnamon can be used in various ways as it is a nutrition-packed ingredient. People who are in a weight-loss spree use cinnamon in their morning glass of lemon water to flush out all the toxins. It is also a healthy option for diabetic patients. It helps to lower the blood sugar levels and cure diabetes naturally. Hence diabetic people should try to include cinnamon in their regular diet. Cinnamon also has anti-inflammatory properties.

  1. Peppermint

This herb has cooling properties and is packed with various other nutritional properties. It has found that peppermint helps to relieve chronic stomach pain. It helps to relieve the pain experienced in the colon while passing stools hence the ingredient is helpful for people suffering from piles as well. It also helps to lower the heat in our bodies. One can use it in the preparation of delicious summer cooler drinks too. Peppermint oil helps to lower the inflammation hence it can be used to massage the painful parts of the body.   

  1. Turmeric

Turmeric or Curcumin is the king of spices. Not only it has an important role in our curries and vegetable preparations it is also helpful for our overall body internally as well as externally. It has a main role to play in our curries as a curry without turmeric is incomplete. It is also full of anti-oxidant properties which make it a great ingredient to add in a warm glass of water to start our day with. It is also used in the preparation of various homemade face packs to get that natural shine and glow on our face. Turmeric also has anti-bacterial properties hence its paste is used to apply on cuts, wounds, or bruises to allow them to heal at a quicker pace. 

  1. Tulsi

Tulsi or Holy Basil is not just treated as a herb in India it also has religious value. Many people prefer to have a tulsi and ginger tea to start their day refreshingly. It helps to add a hint of freshness to your cup of tea. Tulsi is full of anti-oxidants and anti-bacterial properties therefore it can be used to heal a bruise, cut or wound. It ceases the growth of bacteria on a wound too. 

  1. Ginger

This healthy ingredient is used to spice up our curries and various food items. Non-vegetarian food preparation is incomplete without ginger. Many heart patients are also advised to chew on a piece of ginger in the morning for a healthy heart condition. Ginger also helps to reduce inflammation. There are many oils available in the market consisting of ginger to lower the unbearable pain in the joints and muscles. Studies have also found that ginger is also helpful for cancer patients.
