Three Doshas in Ayurveda- Vata, Pitta, and Kapha

Introduction

Ayurveda is a science in itself and has a huge role to play in our lives. It has answers to all our questions. May the problem be internal or external Ayurveda has the answer to all. Therefore it is practiced since ancient times not only in India but also in other parts of the world. It is the best way to resolve our health issues without involving chemicals in our bodies. It consists of the use of natural ingredients free from harmful toxins. Hence Ayurveda is considered a blessing. It can be used optimally by carrying a deep study of it and knowing the maximum benefits of it. 

Ayurveda has various definitions. It consists of components that are further defined in various ways as well. Hence it is a deep science in itself. Ayurveda has defined our body into a structure made up of various components like air, water, fire, and many others. Each of the components has its importance and reason in our body to exist. Therefore it is necessary to balance each of them and live a happy and healthy lifestyle. A properly balanced body is considered to be the one that has all the elements well composed and balanced. 

The behavior of every individual differs from the other. The reason behind it is the components in every human body may vary from the other. Therefore few people are quick to learn any new task while some are passive and slow. Hence it is necessary to know the correct balance of components within our first home, our own body. 

What is Dosha?

The definition of Dosha may also differ from person to person. But eventually, Dosha is the energy that is present in the human body. It defines physical as well as the mental energy of an individual. It must be properly balanced in an individual for a healthier lifestyle. The various Doshas which our body is comprised of are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

Vata

Vata describes the energy of wind, space, and air in our bodies. It is also one of the most powerful Dosha in our body and rules the other energies in our body. Hence the balance of this energy is essential in our body. Misbalance of Vata in a human body can be identified by constipation, dry skin, pain in the body, or even mental imbalance which may include anxiety, unable to concentrate, or a stressed atmosphere. Therefore this Dosha is considered as a ruling one in an individual’s body. 

Vata describes movement in our body hence every type of movement such as breathing, talking, excretion, urination, or even movement of our hands or legs depends on this Dosha. Therefore it is also considered to govern the quickness of our mind and thinking as well.

  • Tiredness
  • Fatigue
  • Lack of concentration

Pitta

Pitta Dosha is the factor responsible for elements of fire and water in our bodies. It controls elements related to heat in our bodies. Hence people with high Pitta Dosha are a bit short-tempered. Such people have a well-built physique. It relates to all the high-temperature fundamentals in our bodies. Such people are smart and intelligent. People with high Pitta Dosha may also experience interrupted sleep as well.

Kapha

Kapha Dosha is associated with energies related to earth and water. People with dominating Kapha Dosha have a stable mind and body. Such people have slow functioning. They are steady and do not fluctuate in their decisions. Such people do not experience high temperament and are calm and relaxed by nature. They are also dedicated to their work and are always dependable. Kapha dominant people might have a heavy body structure. They also enjoy few luxuries like voluminous hair, radiant skin, and huge and enormous eyes. They have a good memory. Such personalities have a pleasing nature and are good to go around always. They also have the pleasure to enjoy deep and uninterrupted sleep.
